Over the past year or so, it seems like the number incidents of police brutality has increased. I am less sure of this being true than the publicity these acts have received. In any event, I know that these stories have changed how I view the police force in the United States. I used to think of police officers as nice people who were working for the common good, finding the bad guys and punishing them based on the crime committed. Now, I’m not so sure. I’m scared of police officers. I once believed that they were meant to protect me, but every time I see a cop car, even if I know I have done nothing wrong, my heart beats insanely fast. Is that how it’s supposed to be? I am really supposed to fear the people whose job it is to keep me safe?
The New Police Dynamic
I know that not all police officers are bad; many do have a good motive, but it’s those stories of police brutality that make me anxious when I see an officer.
