Are you tired of the ups and downs of freelancing? I was too, and I’ve since learned there are plenty of good reasons to work a normal job.
Wanting a traditional job doesn’t make you less of a musician or creative person. So keep reading to learn why working isn’t as bad as you may think.

1. The Benefits
Of course, I have to start with the obvious, which is employee benefits. Many employers pay you in more than just your standard compensation.
You’ll often qualify for health insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off. Sure, you may not get these benefits as soon as you’re hired, but they’ll eventually apply to you.
These benefits cost a lot more when you have to get them for yourself. So if you’re looking to save a bit of money, consider getting a normal job alongside your freelance career.
2. More Protections
Like it or not, employees have more protections than freelancers, such as when it comes to getting paid. I encountered that problem twice as a freelance writer.
My clients refused to pay, and there wasn’t much I could do. But if a employer doesn’t pay their employees, there are harsher consequences for the company.
And while being an employee doesn’t mean you can’t get fired, there are more protections there. You can’t be fired for discriminatory reasons, for example.
3. Steady Paychecks
Another one of the best reasons to work a normal job is the steady paycheck it comes with. You’ll get paid twice a month, every two weeks, or on some other schedule.
When you’re a salaried employee or consistently work the same schedule, your paycheck will stay the same. You’ll know how much to expect in your bank account regularly.
Sure, you may earn a lot some months as a freelancer, but you might see some dips. The steadiness of a job can make it easier to budget.
4. Get Out of the House
When I got a normal job after freelancing for so long, I realized it was nice to get out. I didn’t know how much I actually missed going to work and seeing people outside of my household.
Of course, there are some normal jobs that let you work from home. And some freelance gigs allow you to get out of the house.
Still, there’s something to be said for having a set schedule and going to the same place. You have a routine that allows you to explore your area a bit.
5. Meet New People
One of the lesser appreciated reasons to work a normal job is to meet people. Obviously, you can do this when working for yourself.
But I’ve found it a lot easier to meet people and really connect with them. You can meet your coworkers but also clients or customers.
And you may come to a point when you look forward to seeing specific people at your job. That can make it even more exciting to get ready for the day or week.
6. Work-Life Balance
When I had consistent freelance work, I had good work-life balance. But when I was struggling to get clients, I felt like I was working all of the time.
As a traditional employee, I have that work-life balance back. I don’t have to worry about finding work to do or getting someone new on my client list.
Sure, I have a business on the side, I dedicate time to that. However, I have pretty good work-life balance since my normal job covers my basic expenses.
7. Support Your Business
Another one of the best reasons to work a normal job is to help your business or side hustle. It sounds counterintuitive since working full-time means you have less time for your business.
However, you’ll have that consistent income we talked about. And you can use some of that income to pay for things to get your business off the ground.
Set aside part of your budget for business expenses. Then, you can invest your profits back into your business to grow it even more.
Can You Run a Business With a Normal Job?
You don’t have to sacrifice freelancing or self-employment to work a normal job. It’s completely possible to do both and be successful.
I’ve been working full-time for a little over three months, and I’m running my online business on the side. If I can do it, so can you.
What Are Your Reasons to Work a Normal Job?
There are many great reasons to work a normal job. Maybe you want some stability, or you’re tired of paying a ton for health insurance.
If you want to get a normal job, don’t be ashamed. Look for a job that suits you and allows you to still do your other projects on the side.
